Is your child just nervous or does he or she need speech therapy? All children learn and grow at a different pace but some sign should not be ignored. Here are 4 signs on if your toddler need speech therapy brought to you by Speech Therapy Los Angeles.

  1. Does your child interact socially?

If your child is almost 3 months old and does not interact with other children then that could be a red flag. Also look out if your child isn’t babbling at around 7 months, if your baby only makes a few gestures and doesn’t understand what you’re saying then he or she may need speech therapy.

  1. Does your child only know a few gestures?

By the age of 1 and 1 ½ children can usually begin putting words together. If your child doesn’t say anything or has limited vocabulary then that might be a red flag.

  1. Can’t understand what your child is saying?

It is normal to not understand what your toddler is saying but if you and others can’t understand what your child is saying between 18 months to 2 years of age then they may need speech therapy.

  1. Does your child have a hard time pronouncing?

Some sounds are harder to pronounce than others. Some children can’t make a “K” or a “G” sound until up to 2 years of age. Sounds like ‘P’, ‘B’ and ‘M’ are easier sounds and shouldn’t be a problem for children after the age of 2. If your 2 year-old is still having trouble with those sounds or your 4 year old is having trouble with the more difficult sounds, that is most likely a red flag.

If any of these are raising red flags then please make sure to contact us at Speech Therapy Los Angeles.
