stuttering therapy

Does failure make a child more confident? Not necessarily.

Children develop confidence by dealing with failure successfully.

Children need to be supported during their failures to build the confidence that will grow through adulthood.  Knowing that they have faced adversity but came out okay will give them the confidence to continue to pursue new things without the fear of failing.

Here are the four secrets for raising a confident child:

1.  Understandingstuttering therapy

Empathize and understand your child’s hurt feelings during a failure.  By supporting them and their feelings, they will feel those emotions and conquer them instead of bottling them up inside and associating them with failure.  Your child will learn that he or she will feel negative emotions but will recover from them.

2.  Experiencing Problem Solving

Do not make a habit of solving your child’s problems yourself.  You should give advice and support them through the process, while allowing your child to ultimately solve the problem themselves.  By doing this, your child will feel more capable of handling difficult situations on their own.

3.  Managing Emotions

Children who can regulate their emotions and not become overwhelmed by them can persevere through the obstacles that may come. You can help your child develop emotional regulation by welcoming and validating the emotions they may feel.

4.  Mastery

Experiencing the process of mastery will show kids how practice and dedication can achieve success.  It is important that your child finds motivation within themselves and not to please others.  Give your child time to find their own passions.  Help them by exposing them to a variety of activities.

The security of knowing that someone cares and is supporting them will help immensely in building your child’s confidence.  These confidence secrets are beneficial not only as a whole, but also in your child’s stuttering therapy progress.
